The Terramar Golf Course is a lovely links Course situated just outside the small coastal town of Sitges, near the Catalan capital Barcelona. Usually the main railway line South from Barcelona cuts trough the property and holes 5 to 17 are played on the North side of the tracks, in a Mediterranean forest area with the raining holes routed on the coastal side.
Terramar Golf Course is a pleasant field to play. It is not extremely difficult, it is neither too long nor too short, most of the holes are flat and varied and also the microclimate of Sitges makes 300 days a year to play with sun and good weather.
Being next to the sea means welcome breezes, which are not usually of great intensity and help to withstand the heat in the summer months. Probably the secret to make a good result is not to make mistakes in the first and last holes, the most complicated in the field.
The 4 Par 3’s are all testing holes, but contrastingly 3 or the 4 Par 5’s are relatively short, presenting good birdie opportunities. Some holes worth a mention; On the front nine; The Par 3 3rd hole with its tricky little creek in front of the green and normally played against the wind (similar to a British links hole) and the demanding, slight left doglegged Par 4 8th. On the back nine; holes 12, 17 and 18 are very good. IN fact the closing hole is arguably the best on the card - a right doglegged Par 4, flanked by pine trees with a gently elevated, well bunkered putting surface.
The Terramar Golf Course opened in 1927 and was originally designed by Tom Simpson, then later redesigned in 1993.
