The Royal Obidos Golf Course, one of the newest in the region and Severiano Ballesteros’s last project, was designed to integrate subtly with the natural surroundings, taking advantage of the undulating terrain the Course attracts golfers of all levels to this seaside heathland Course.
There are long fairways, water comes into play on 8 holes and there are a number of risky shots - all add to the possibilty of a high score on the well maintained Golf Course.
The first hole, a generous right handed dogleg, heads North, setting up a spectacular combination of holes overlooking the lagoon (Lagoa de Óbidos). The feature hole of the front nine is the 3rd, a 144m Par 3 off the yellow tees to an island green, with the stunning Óbidos lagoon in the background. a second feature hole is the 5th, an an exciting 520m Par 5, with a final approach into a large undulating green surrounded on three sides by water.
The second nine holes, in the Central and Southern sections of the development, overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Six of the holes meander between an intricate ecosystem of lakes interconnected by cascading streams. The highlight of the back nine is the 18th, a 490m Par 5 off the yellow tees, with a panoramic view over the back nine, the clubhouse and the Ocean beyond. Also worth a mention is the 12th, a 420m Par 4, where the golfer has to negotiate both the drive and the second shot between and over two lakes and the curving stream.
The clubhouse offers a restaurant with a variety of menus available, two bars, lounge, pro-shop and bags storage area. Sitting out on the generous terrace, owners and visitors to Royal Óbidos will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the golf course and the cascading lakes and streams and some truly wonderful sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean - the perfect 19th hole.
The Royal Obidos Golf Course opened in January 2012 and was designed by Severiano Ballesteros.
