Lisbon Sports Club

Based in Lisbon

The Lisbon Sports Club, the oldest Golf Course in Lisbon,  is a parkland Course, located in one of the most picturesque areas of the surrounding greater Lisbon area and is a mere 20 minutes from the capital itself and also from the villages of Sintra and Cascais.

To this day, Lisbon Sports Club maintains its links with the British Community that founded the club in 1922. The spirit of a club atmosphere is something they pride themselves on and strive to maintain. It was only in 1964 that the club took up its permanent home, the Casal da Carregueira.

Situated amidst hills and valleys the Lisbon Sports Club is a relatively short golf course. However the natural layout of the land makes it more difficult than it appears. Concentration and strategy are fundamental. Along most of the Lisbon Sports Club Golf Course runs a winding water ditch. The narrow fairways lined with beautiful old trees and abundant vegetation blend in perfectly with the natural surroundings. A number of difficulties - woods to the left, stream on the right, and bunkers on both sides - challenge the player even with his first shot. Narrow tee shots and some blind shots to small greens, all add to the challenge of this Golf Course. Pay attention on the 16th, par 5, don't go too far past the zebra post on your 2nd shot as there is a ravine hiding a large stream before the green. Each hole of Lisbon Sports Club is so different that no matter how often they are played, there are always new challenges awaiting the player.

One of the main characteristics of the Lisbon Sports club Golf Course is the fact that there has been no real estate development. This gives the golfer the opportunity to play golf in a natural habitat and in unspoiled, picturesque surroundings. The golf course is quite rustic and not manicured at all, it has a good feel to it, players are immersed in nature. There are some lovely views with no houses and a lot of trees. Most of the tees are elevated, therefore a buggy is most definitely recommended.

Interesting fact; Lisbon Sports Club brews its own craft beer! It is the first craft beer produced with ingredients from a Golf Course, it is available in the clubhouse.

The comfortable clubhouse with its veranda overlooking the magnificent woodland was originally the old Manor House of Casal da Carregueira.

The Lisbon Sports Club Golf Course opened in 1964 and was designed by Hawtree & Sons.
