Estoril Golf

Based in Estoril, Lisbon

Estoril Golf Course overlooks Estoril and the Ocean, set amongst eucalyptus, mimosas and pine trees giving a uniquely colourful touch. The architect and the successive green keepers have made excellent use of these various trees which, together with the uneven terrain, make the Estoril Golf Course challenging in terms of accuracy rather than distance.

Estoril Golf Club dates back to 1929 in its first nine-hole version and it was built by Fausto de Figueiredo, the gambling concessionaire at the Estoril Casino. In the new design, the former 9th hole disappeared, and an alteration was made to the fairway of the 13th hole - the famous Patiño’s hole - that now has a dogleg to the right and the second shot is played from the area where the old green was located. The green is now on a higher level. With the disappearance of the 9th hole it was necessary to build another hole, which is now number 13, a par 3 of 160 metres in length.

The Estoril Golf Course demands tactics. The visually stunning Par 3 holes, although they vary in length, all pose particular challenges. The 4th hole; the Peppers Hole surrounded by pepper trees and the 8th hole The Tea Cup - is well known due to the always challenging flag position.

Finally, the 16th hole has a re-designed green but it is still a Par 3, 186 metres long and it is considered by many players to be one of the best holes in Portugal.

Lovely mature woodland Golf Course with an old school design and always very well maintained. Over the years, Estoril Golf Club has suffered continuous improvements and renovations to keep up with modern standards of excellence. Nowadays, it is a highly interesting golf course with a traditional flair.

The Estoril Golf course opened the first 9 holes in 1929 and they were designed by Fausto Figueiredo. The second 9 opened in 1945 and were designed by Mackenzie Ross.
