La Cala Golf; America, Asia and Europa Courses
Situated inland from the Mijas Costa coatal area.
The La Cala Resort has three 18 hole championship courses, a top quality 6 hole par 3 course, a 5 star hotel, numerous sporting facilities and the only David Leadbetter academy in Spain, making it the largest golf resort in Spain.
3 beautiful courses, set in a nature reserve, surrounded by mountains and the Mediterranean, the courses are carved amidst breathtaking scenery and stunning views.
Course designer Cabell Robinson stresses the difference between the 3 courses: “The 3 courses in La Cala Resort are all very different in character. The new course is the most different of the 3 because of the river Ojen – the others are in the hills. They are 3 good challenges and neither is too long. Yet they are all very different in character. It gives a great choice to golfers to have 3 different 18 hole courses to choose from.”
Due to the distances between some greens and tees, a buggy is recommended on the Europa course. Only the fittest are advised to walk the other 2 courses.
Asia Course;
A good course, with some great views, slightly tighter than the other 2. With plenty of challenging holes along the way, you are guaranteed a testing round of golf. Water guards both greens at the 3rd and the 14th and in terms of a test of golf course strategy, the 18th couldn't be much better. Just remember not to over-club off the tee or this lengthy par 5 could well wreck your scorecard. This is an exciting course which puts a premium on the approach shot.
The Asia Course (formally the South Course) opened in 1991 and was designed by Cabell B Robinson.

America Course;
The hilly topography requires a lot of carry across steep bush-covered side slopes. The wide fairways and rough areas and more "joined" fairways make this a slightly easier driving course than Campo Asia. In addition, there are fewer fairway bunkers. There are water hazards on the 9th and 16th. Four of the par 5s are reachable in two (holes 1, 9, 15 and 18), and the par 3s are quite spectacular and testing.
Campo America requires accurate and well-judged shot-making on the approach as nearly three quarters of the greens are perched or slightly elevated. Challenging and frustrating at times, but most definately a fun course to play.
The America Course (formally the North Course) opened in 1992 and was designed by Cabell B Robinson.

Europa Course;
The fairways are generous from the tees and the greens are slightly larger than on the other 2 courses. They are not severely contoured but are well bunkered and will be easier for the average golfer. A good course.
The Ojen river plays a part in eight holes, cutting across three fairways. There is one main bridge that measures 45 metres and four smaller bridges over the river. The 14th is at the maximum limit of what is allowed for a par 3 at 233 metres. The 11th is the longest hole. The par 5 measures 524 metres.
The Europa Course opened in 2005 and was designed by Cabell B Robinson.

Facilities; Restaurant, bar, snack bar, half-way house bar between holes 9 and 10 on the America and Asia courses, buggy bar on the Europa course, pro shop, 6 hole Par 3 practice course, large driving range, chipping and pitching practice facilities, putting greens, short game area, sauna,outdoor pool, outdoor jacuzzi, David Leadbetter golf academy, rental clubs, trolleys and GPS buggies (new modern fleet of buggies as from July 2012). Free WiFi in most public areas (Club house, 19th hole restaurant, hotel etc.).
Other facilities within the La Cala Resort are available (at a supplement) to golfers, including 2 floodlit tennis courts, squash court, gym, football/rugby field, Spa with indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pools, hamman, steam room, sauna, experience showers, igloo, indoor heated exercise pool, beauty treatments.
