Mijas Golf (Los Lagos and Los Olivos)

Based a few kilometres inland from Fuengirola.

The MIjas Golf Courses are busy, walkable, popular parkland courses with very little rough, plenty of water, relatively flat, with some slightly challenging holes but overall not too difficult.

Although both are the work of the same designer, there is no doubt that there are interesting contrasts between the two courses: if Los Lagos is based on water hazards and sand, Los Olivos is strategic with narrow tree lined fairways and elevated greens.

Los Lagos;

The longer of the 2 Mijas courses. Los Lagos is a ground course with wide fairways and a few forest trees obstacles, but is defended by many bunkers and nine lakes (lagos), from which the course gets its name and which easily trap the ball. It is a course with soft movement and large greens. It could be said that the American designer wanted to present a course especially for amateurs, but at the same time, it can present a challenge for the best players.

During the 2012 refurbishment the main changes are; Larger greens, built to USGA specifications, larger teeing areas, a new irrigation and drainage system, new buggy paths (now allowing buggy use 365 days a year), better use of the many lakes and 500 new trees have been planted.

The Los Lagos Golf Course opened in 1976 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr. The Course was completely refurbished in 2012.

Los Olivos;

The main feature which distinguishes this course from Los lagos (The Lakes) is the abundance of trees - hence the name - its smaller size and fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well protected by bunkers. A slightly tighter challenge, which demands a strong and straight drive from the player.

The Los Olivos Golf course opened in 1983/4 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr. Refurnished in 2000/1.
