Real Club Valderrama

Based in San Roque near Sotogrande.

During its early days it was firstly named Sotogrande New and then changed to Las Aves Golf Club in 1981. Mr Jaime Ortiz Patiño purchased Las Aves Golf Club in 1984 along with some extra land. At his request Mr Jones returned to re-design the course. In June 2014 the title 'Real' was awarded to Valderrama by H.M. King Don Carlos I. Taking the name from Club de Golf Valderrama to Real Club Valderrama.

In January 1985, Valderrama was founded, thus creating the first page in its illustrious history.

Thanks to Mr Ortiz Patiño's desire, determination and hard work, it took Valderrama only a few years to attain its position in the Golf World rankings as the Number 1 Golf Course in mainland Europe, a position that Valderrama has proudly held and maintained since 1989.

In 2009 Valderrama was voted number 1 Golf Course in continental Europe by Golf Monthly Magazine.

Valderrama is now in the top 50 golf courses in the world.

Valderrama's quality speaks for itself with the Golf Club having hosted the flagship tournament of the European Tour, the Volvo Masters from 1988 to 1996 and from 2002 to 2008. This was followed in 1997 by the spectacularly exciting Ryder Cup Matches, won by Europe in an amazing atmosphere. Then in 1999 and 2000, the finals of the World Golf Championships were hosted by Valderrama and were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir, respectively.

Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed a golf course which can be enjoyed equally by the handicap and scratch golfer. His positioning of the tees and his shaping of the fairways allow the 24 handicap man and the 32 handicap lady to enjoy Valderrama as much as the top players in the world.

Mr Jaime Ortiz Patiño has created the most perfect golf course for you to enjoy. Equally as beautiful as it is challenging, Valderrama offers all golfers the unique opportunity to play the best golf course in Europe and the welcome you receive at the golf club will ensure that your visit to Valderrama will give you your ultimate golfing experience.

The Valderrama Golf Course opened in 1974 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
