El Rompido Golf

El Rompido Golf is situated in the province of Huelva on the Western side of Andalucia, it is the only golf course in the region with 36 holes (North course and South course) and no property developments surrounding it.

The two 18-hole courses, surrounded by pine and orange groves, cross the wetlands and open out onto the Atlantic Ocean with some spectacular views, giving those who play it a unique experience. The force of nature is evident with every step, turning the sport of golf into a pleasure for the senses.

North Course;

18 holes, Par 72

The 1st hole is a ten minute walk from the clubhouse, but is well worth the walk. From the elevated tee there are long views over the miles of reeds, grasses and gorse-type scrub that populate the river plain here, tongues of which reach into the gently rolling hills where the first seven holes are set. The occasional dark green clumps of trees that occupy some of the higher ground are in stark contrast to the huge and vivid blue sky.

The 8th heads upwards and inland to a bowl containing the next four holes, separated from each other by tall pines. As with most of the course, the fairways are in excellent condition and quite wide, with enough rough to stop all but the wildest shot disappearing into the heavy stuff.

After the tiny 12th (with serious trouble right of the green) you crest the hill and are back to the estuary side of the course. The long views and scenery create a lovely feeling of space on this course, each of whose holes is completely different to the next.

The North Course is a monument to modern golf, intelligent and entertaining;

Modern because it combines power with precision. Intelligent because it makes you think about your strokes. Entertaining because its medium-sized greens will entertain both the most skilled player and those with the highest handicaps.

The El Rompido North course opened in 2006 and was designed by Alvaro Arana.

South Course;

18 holes, Par 72

The South course runs alongside the clubhouse and is divided into two sections with very different characteristics, both in terms of technique and the landscape. The pine forest alternates with olive trees and wetlands, requiring golfers to use strategy and precision in their strokes.

The course, which can be played easily on foot, offers spacious greens known to be among the fastest in Andalucia. The combination of tropical grass and winter grass gives the fairways a comfortable, pleasant feel.

The South Course is less wild than the North and a touch more compact – but no less of a challenge and just as well presented.

The El Rompido South course opened in 2003 and was designed by Alvaro Arana.
